Aleksandra Piasecka – architect, sculptor, founder of a Warsaw based studio for architecture and sculpture.
Aleksandra’s work is a search for beauty in the expression of a modern woman’s identity.
The starting point is a portrait or a figure. The author breaks the classical way of portraiture by developing the solid of the portrait into an abstract form.
Working dynamically with clay, she rejects the conventional representation of the figure in favor of spontaneous experimentation. The resulting new forms make the viewer forget the stereotypical, often objectifying perception of female beauty and focus attention on the search for hidden meanings. They invite the viewer to discover the phenomenon of femininity.
Aleksandra started her career in France, working for the leading architecture studios in Paris: Christian de Portzamparc www.portzamparc.com , Manuelle Gautrand Architecture www.manuelle-gautrand.com, Wilmotte & Associés Architectes www.wilmotte.com.
She had to deal with people with a strong vision, people that were uncompromisingly pursuing their goals. This awakened in her the desire to seek her own vision and to realize her own ideas. She designed and oversaw construction of the multi family estate “Jardin des Arts” in Hyeres les Palmiers on the Côte d’Azur. Those were three buildings with total of 84 apartments. Bringing this project to life was a great satisfaction for her. However, she learnt first-hand how architectural creation is limited by economic constraints, embodied in developers’ financial objectives. She decided to move away from those constraints.
Although she thought about returning to sculpture while working as an architect, the decisive moment for her to take up sculpture full-time was the creation of the work “Ray of light” (2 meters high woman’s face). This work became a full-time exhibition at “Jardin des Arts” apartment complex in Hyeres les Palmiers on the Côte d’Azur.
The light of southern France has inspired and attracted artists for centuries. “Ray of light” depicts the moment of exposing one’s face to the sun, a moment of truly connecting with the energy and drawing strength from it. This sculpture is her turning point, her drawing on energy and finding courage within herself.
